The National Unity Platform (NUP) has cleared the air on the controversy surrounding the absence of a basic supreme law, the constitution, within the party.
In a statement posted on their official handle, NUP acknowledged shortcomings in their constitution but asserted that despite utilizing the inherited document from 2020, it had undergone amendments and was gazetted by the Electoral Commission in 2023.
According to NUP, the adoption of the amended constitution is contingent upon the completion of the Electoral Commission's remaining administrative procedures regarding the document.
The clarification comes in the wake of heightened scrutiny over the NUP constitution following the suspension of the Party's deputy president in Buganda, Mathias Mpuuga.
Mpuuga faced accusations of irregularly receiving 500 million shillings as a service award for his two-and-a-half-term leadership as the leader of the opposition in Parliament.
