Soldiers admit harbouring plans to attack Military barracks

The General Court Martial in Makindye is set to sentence four officers who admitted harbouring plans to attack a military installation.

Last week, four UPDF soldiers including; Lt Col Philip Frank Eguma 42, Capt. Hillman Bosco Aleper 36, Lt Ronald Waibi Mwavu, 36 and Pt. Kenneth Sekajja,32 last week pleaded guilty to committing offences related to security when they planned to attack Kabamba Army barracks in Mubende District.

The four officers were formerly attached to the UPDF Air Defence section in Nakasongola,Kimaka and armoured warfare training school in Mubende.

The four together with other civilians were in 2014 arrested for holding meetings in various places of Kampala, Wakiso, Masaka, Luweero and in Nairobi, Kenya where they recruited people to engage into the attack of Kabamba barracks in Mubende district.

On Monday,the army court chairman Lt.Gen.Andrew Guti deferred the sentencing of the four to a later date this week because the court was not ready to give it.

"The sentence will be done on notice because it is not ready today,"Guti said.

The offence carries a maximum punishment of death sentence once one is convicted.

Hearing of the case for the civilians accused together with the four UPDF soldiers is still ongoing.
