Speaking to her supporters later, Musherure who lost in the NRM party primaries to Godfrey Aine Kagua but later challenged the election noted on Saturday that she will now devote her time to engage constituents on what to expect of her during the forthcoming polls.

“What the people of Mawogola North need now, more than ever, is leaders not politicians. Great leaders set aside their personal interests and focus on how to collectively work with others towards a common good for the benefit of the people. This is the kind of leadership I would like to offer people of Mawogola North,” she said.

Kutesa’s daughter petitioned the NRM election tribunal over the highly contested September ,30 election in which she polled 16104 votes against Sodo’s 17343 votes.

In her petition, she cited ferrying of voters whereas in some villages where she claimed to have wide support, election never took place.

Early this week, the election tribunal reasoned with her that there were some irregularities and ruled that Sodo was not rightly declared as the winner.

Speaking on Saturday, Musherure said the environment created in the party primaries could not be classified as either free or fair, noting that the results as declared on September,30, lacked legitimacy and were not representative of the will of the people of Mawogola North.

“I am pleased that following a thorough review of the evidence presented, the tribunal found that my

petition was persuasive and successful. That the Central Executive Committee (CEC), chaired by President Yoweri Museveni, subsequently decided to withdraw a declaration of Godfrey Aine as NRM flag bearer for the MP seat of Mawogola North is proof that the NRM party holds true to its ideals of democracy and patriotism and chooses the principles of fairness over political expediency,” she noted.

“As I formally start my campaigns on individual merit, I would like to emphasise that I remain a member of the NRM party, devoted to its principles of patriotism, democracy, social-economic transformation, Pan- Africanism and national unity.”

Kutesa’s daughter noted that she will campaign for President Museveni in the forthcoming general election.

The battle lines have once again been drawn between Musherure and Sodo who are both close to the First family.

Sodo is a brother to President Museveni whereas Shartsi is a daughter to the incumbent and Foreign Affairs Minister, Sam Kutesa.

Both candidates were on Friday nominated as independent candidates to stand for Mawogola North constituency.
