Preparations are concluded to ensure the Sudanese government and rebel groups sign the signing peace agreement on Saturday in Juba, South Sudan.
On Thursday, the South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardit inspected the venues for the signing ceremony to crosscheck the ongoing preparations for the Saturday event.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, the Press Secretary in the office of the President, Ateny Wek Ateny said Kiir was satisfied with the work done at the sites for the occasion of the final signing of the Sudan peace agreement.
Ateny noted that the President was ready to initiate the final signing of the peace agreement on Saturday.
“It is worth mentioning that the peace in Sudan means peace in South Sudan,” he said.
A peace agreement was countersigned by the two parties at the end of August raising hope that a conflict that has spanned nearly two decades and killed hundreds of thousands of people especially in Western Darfur will finally come to an end.
South Sudan has been mediating between the Sudanese transitional government led by Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and leaders of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), a coalition of armed groups from Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions.
