Sironko mudslide victims are battling severe water shortage. The mudslide victims found in Bufupa parish in Sironko district several kilometers to access water.
Michael Mafabi, the Bufupa Parish councillor, said all the water sources were destroyed by the mudslides, which occurred in August last year.According to Mafabi, currently residents trek to the neighbouring sub counties to access water for domestics use.
George Kibuni, a resident of Bufupa parish, said the water shortage is a serious problem in the area. He said some of the wells they have been using have dried up due to the dry spell.
According to Kibuni, some of the residents go to bed without bathing due to lack of water.
Immaculate Zaneyi, a resident said they spend several hours searching for water. James Nangoli, a father of six resident of Lusave village in Bufupa parish explains that members of his family only bath thrice a week due to the water scarcity.
Nangoli said he had come up with a time table where members of his family on bath on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday.
Agnes Aketch, the General Manager National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Mbale area, said they had planned to improve water coverage to 100 percent.
Aketch was optimistic that they will start work in Bufupa this financial year.
