Defending champions KCCA FC’s hopes of retaining the title they won last season suffered yet another setback after being by Mbarara City in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday in Kakyeeka stadium.
Coming into the game, the Kasasiro boys hoped to bag all the three points and close the gap between them and table leaders Vipers SC but this never went according to plan after being outsmarted by their hosts.
KCCA FC took the lead through a youngster, Sam Ssenyonjo header on 18 minutes but this spelt doom for them as the home side became hungrier after that and 10 minutes later in the 28th minute, Ibrahim Orit connected with his head, a delivery from Brian Aheebwa that went past the visitors’ goalkeeper, Charles Lukwago for the equalizer.
Things seemed bad for the visitors when in the 71st minute ,Swalik Ssegujja capitalized on a mistake that had seen youngster Eric Ssenjobe poorly clear away the ball.
Ssegujja’s resultant belter hit the net of the roof for the second and winning goal of the day to condemn the Kasasiro boys to their third loss of the season.
The loss means KCCA FC are still 4th, on 26 points, eight adrift of table leaders Vipers but the former with two games to play to end the first round.
Mbarara City on the other side moved to the 9th position on 19 points.
