The First Lady who also doubles as the Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Museveni has directed the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) to start an investigation into the scandal involving the sale of World Cup tickets by FUFA president over the alleged sale of the 2014 FIFA World Cup tickets.
A particular number of tickets is allocated to each federation prior to the World Cup and in 2014, Uganda was allocated 177 but these were allegedly not sold to Ugandans as is supposed according to a complaint lodged by Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana.
However, in response to a petition by Ssewanyana to government through his lawyers of Mulindwa Associate and Co. Advocate , Mrs Museveni in a November 18 letter says action has been taken in regards the alleged sale of tickets.
“I have requested the Inspector General of Government to investigate this matter in view of the laws of Uganda and take appropriate further action as necessary,” reads in part, the First Lady’s letter.
Mrs Museveni also says that the Education and Sports Ministry Permanent Secretary has too sought for legal opinion and guidance from the Solicitor General on the way forward for government on the matter.
Magogo is currently serving a two-month suspension from FIFA after pleading guilty and entered a plea bargain that would see him get a lesser punishment for the offence of selling the 2014 World Cup tickets.
“An investigation into Magogo was opened on 23 July 2018 related to the resale of 2014 FIFA World Cup tickets. In accordance with article 67 part 1 of the FIFA Code of Ethics, the parties have mutually agreed a two-month suspension from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level,” FIFA said in a statement in October.
The suspension also came with a fine of CHF 10,000 which is equivalent to shs37 million.
