Fifty local referees yesterday turned for the integrated technical and physical training at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
The StarTimes’ Uganda Premier League and Big League referees were taken through new drills, and refresher training skills to perfect their decision making authority on all facts connected with play.
Ali Kalyango CAF and FIFA fitness referee trained instructor, Denis Batte CAF referee trained instructor and Ronnie Kalema the head of referees in Uganda were among referees instructors present during the
training.
The referees were taken through integrated training and later given a chance to preview their mistakes view digital screen.
Denis Batte the CAF and FIFA trained referees instructors says that the review of what has been taking place during training is modern way of helping referees to realize their mistakes.
“After doing training, we do a group review to help them on how they position themselves during the game, this help the referees to correct their mistakes,” Batte said.
According the Chairman Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) Ronnie Kalema, as UFRA they have many competitions to handle, a reason why they have decided to come together for integrated training.
“One of our focus is that where should the referee be and at what time? When should a referee take a decision and can referees take decisions that are consistent,” Kalema said.
On some occasions, the referees have been accused of match fixing, abused by fans at the stadium regarding decisions taken during match officiating.
Some have encountered suspension and bans resulting from poor decisions.
