Capt Mike Mukula, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, has proposed a lifestyle audit for public officers as one way of checking corruption.

This audit according to Mukula should focus on looking into the resources of local and central government workers.

He said many public officials accumulate wealth stealthily by encroaching on public resources.

Mukula was speaking during the third Teso Convention held at Soroti Hotel.

He questioned how technical people like procurement officers own large buildings in towns and yet they earn small amounts of salaries known to government.

Mukula's view was supported by some people.

Patrick Okabe, the Serere County MP supported Mukula's suggestion saying a lot of financial resources have been diverted by some officials hampering the development of rural areas.

He said government had initiated programmes with huge sums of money like NUSAF, PRDP among others but Teso as a sub region continues to wallow in poverty.
