Mike Mutebi’s KCCA FC will be looking at defending the trophy they won last season when they play against Kitende based Vipers Sports Club in the Pilsner Super 8 finals later today, Sunday at the Betway Stadium in Wankulukuku.
The Kasasiro boys were the inaugural winners of the tournament after beating Onduparaka FC 2-0 in finals the same date last year and the same ground and will be hoping to make a repeat of the same today.
The Lugogo based side got a boost when they beat resilient African Stars from Malawi in the Caf Champions League on Friday and they hope to build onto that win and Mutebi is expected to keep his faith in youngsters who finished the job on Friday.
“We want to win this game and get to two Pilsner Super 8 cups. We want to retain the cup. It is in our DNA to win. We hope to have recovered well from Friday’s CAF game so that we produce a thrilling game for our fans to enjoy. Matches against Vipers always have a lot of buzz and anticipation and we want to live up to this kind of magnitude,”Mutebi told the KCCA FC website.
For Edward Golola’s side would be looking at winning the tournament for their first time when they face the defending champions at Wankulukuku.
The last two competitions between the two teams outside the league have been won by Mike Mutebi’s KCCA FC but Golola says all that will be put aside when both teams face off today.
“We are playing a good side but we are not bothered by their recent good run. They should expect the best from us and this is the perfect time,”Golola said.

KCCA FC will be without youngsters Julius Poloto and Jurua Hassan who are still recovering from injuries whereas new signing Erisa Ssekisambu will have to undergo a late fitness test in time to face his former paymasters at Wankulukuku.
For Vipers SC, new recruits Rashid Toha, Muhammad Shaban and Ashraf Mugume will have to pass late fitness tests if they are to play in the finals.
For the duo of Geoffrey Wasswa (knee injury) and Livingstone Mulondo (stress fracture) are confirmed to sit the game out.
