Speaking at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Citizens’ Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU), Kasingye said he has concrete information that LDUS break the IDS after failing to extort money from night revellers.

“They actually presented to me those broken national Identification Cards. I saw them with my own eyes and I am told it happens at night," he said.

He warned all the newly recruited Local Defence Units (LDUS) and the entire force to refrain from such despicable behaviour of breaking IDs noting that the act is putting the lives of people who travel at night in danger.

Kasingye said it is not the mandate of the LDUs to check the validity and originality of the national IDs some use this as an excuse to extort money from Ugandans.

He promised to take further steps by alerting all their commanders to ensure that whoever is involved in such act is brought to book.
