The Special Forces Command, the UPDF elite unit mandated with guarding the President and members of the first family has got its own brass band, the Nile Post has learnt.
In a statement released by the UPDF spokesperson, Brig.Richard Karemire, over 40 soldiers from the SFC directorate of band were passed out on Friday after undergoing a year’s training in music and band to form the first members of the brass band.
“You have made history today by pioneering the establishment of a band with full structures in SFC, something which was viewed as an impossibility only a year ago,” said the deputy SFC commander, Col.Peter Candia who represented Maj Gen. James Birungi, the commander to preside over the function which was held at Sera Kasenyi Training School, Wakiso District.
He applauded the first band members for earning a new profession to themselves and urged them to continue with training in order to master their equipment, gain confidence and acquire general experience in the field.
The new Special Forces Command brass band was trained by its sister service from the Uganda People's Defence Air Forces (UPDAF)
They were trained in the basics of music; theory, practicals, orchestration and aural.
According to the army spokesperson, the establishment of the band fulfills the strategic intent of making every service self- reliant in terms of providing music to its troops.
Land and Air Forces already have their own brass bands.
The training which started on June 18, 2018 ended on July 5, 2019.
The function was attended by commanding officers, directors, officers, men, parents and spouses of militants of the Special Forces Command.
