The Mufti of Uganda Sheik Ramadhan Mubajje has cautioned Muslims who want to cause bloodshed in Uganda to reconsider their plans.
“We don’t want bloodshed in Uganda because of our differences in beliefs, or in political affiliation, tribal differences," he said.
He made the statements while addressing Muslims at Pearl of Africa Hotel on Saturday evening during a VIP dinner with Mufti Menk.
Mubajje noted that during the formation of Inter Religious Council he was called all sorts of names amidst challenges and accusations.
“The only way to guarantee unity is to accept our differences. We want peace and unity, tolerance and accepting one another," he said.
He said some people have called him a pagan for associating with people of other religious beliefs yet he was trying to foster unity.
"They said that Mubajje is now associating with non believers. I persisted and at this level everyone can observe the works of inter religious council," he noted.
He said the formation of Inter Religious Council has promoted freedom of worship and unity.
He stated that it was not easy to form the council due to a lot of insults, accusations and abuses he experienced.
He noted that enough time has been given to foster unity of the Muslims despite few differences.
“There have been different challenges, insults and abuses but all that did not stop the progress and fostering of unity among Muslims in the country, “he noted.
He said that since he was elected as the Mufti of Uganda his mission was to foster unity and development.
