AFCON 2019: Kaddu’s header the difference for Uganda at half time

By | June 22, 2019

HT: DRC 0-1 Uganda(Patrick Kaddu 14’)

KCCA FC striker Patrick Kaddu scored in the 14th minute to put Uganda in the driving seat in their opening game at the 2019 edition of the Afcon finals in Egypt.

Uganda looked shaky in the first minutes of the game but gained confidence after their opener and never looked back.

It was Abdu Lumala’s run from the right flank that saw him cross put the ball into the DRC box but it was put away by defenders for a corner.

Faruku Miya curled the resultant corner kick well onto Patrick Kaddu’s head who made no mistake but send a powerful header that went past the opponent’s goalkeeper for Uganda’s opener and only goal of the game.

Uganda could have put the game beyond reach but Kaddu missed two clear chances in a space of not more than three minutes in a game that saw the East African representatives take charge of the game.

On the day that Abdu Lumala has been the best player, Emma Okwi, Khalid Aucho could have extended Uganda’s lead but their efforts yielded nothing.

It looks to be seen if Sebastien Desabre’s boys will hold onto the lone goal as they keep DRC onto the back foot like they did in the first stanza and eventually bag all the three points.
