Kenya announces waiver on storage charges for containers that have spent long at  Mombasa Port

Ugandan traders have eaten big after the Kenya Ports Authority(KPA) announced they had removed storage charges for containers that have stayed long at Mombasa Port and Embakasi inland container deport.

In a notice by the KPA Managing Director, Dr.Arch Daniel Manduku, the 100% waiver will last for 100 days before the normal storage fees resume for long stay containers.

“The authority wishes to notify all transit cargo importers and our esteemed countries clients of a 100% waiver on storage charges to all long stay transit bound containers that are over 30 days,” the notice by Manduku says.

“The waiver is valid for 14 days from Wednesday, June 12, 2019 and applies to all transit containers both at the Port of Mombasa and ICT Embakasi.”

Kenya Ports Authority in the notice say they will transfer all the said containers that have been at the port for over 30 days, adding that the list of the containers will be made available at the URA website.

“Upon expiring of this waiver period, all said containers shall be auctioned to recover the authority’s cost
