Lions Club Uganda, ASG Eye Hospital extend free medical treatment to Kamwokya  dwellers

Lions Club of Uganda, in partnership with ASG Eye hospital, has so far extended free medical services to over 500 poor and vulnerable residents of Kamwokya Slum, a Kampala suburb.

The revelation was made on Saturday, by Kamwokya Christian Caring Community Program Manager, Nelson Seruma, during the third Lions Club Health camp drive, to screen for diabetes and eye treatment, at Kamwokya Christian Health Centre.

"Majority of patients receiving these humanitarian health services comprise; the elderly and children, who cannot afford to foot medical bills, as they are poor and vulnerable persons, drawn from Kamwokya slum areas and other neighbouring communities, such as Bukoto," said Seruma.

He said the health camp in addition, provides health counselling services, to create awareness among communities on the causes of Diabetes and blindness.

"Diabetes results from lifestyle habits, such as; excessive consumption of alcohol and sugars, which in turn brings about irreversible blindness. Patients who are diagnosed with diabetes and eye anomalies are given free medicine and reading glasses, donated by Lions Club in partnership with ASG Eye Hospital," he said.

Israel Manzi, Lions Club of Kampala Central President, said ASG Eye Hospital provided all eye glasses, while Lions Club of Uganda, spearheaded by Lions Club of Kampala, provided medical personnel and medicine to carry out treatment of vulnerable communities.

He said the Lions Club healthcare humanitarian activities are a continuous activity, which also include promoting environment conservation among others.
