The Education and Sports minister Janet Kataha Museveni has cautioned institutions that issue their own certificates to candidates contrary to the requirements of the BTVET Act.
She says standards should be maintained to ensure quality of the assessment process and this can only be achieved if only the legally recognized bodies are entrusted with certification.
At the release of the combined release of results for the Directorate of Industrial training, occupational and Modular Assessment of 2018 and the Uganda business and Technical Examinations Board the minister sounded the warning ton institutions that illegally engage in the issuance of certificates.
The number of students sitting for these exams has increased drastically from 22,526 to 45,957 with a commendable number of female candidates. The minster says now UBTEB the exam body responsible is planning to secure and international certificate for the locally trained get acess to global employment.
A total of 45,957 candidates registered for the 2018 exams at level one, two and three with 27,285 females and 18,672 males who performed better then their female counterparts.
The manufacturing sector registered the highest number of candidates at 13,795 within sectors with Tourism and hospitality registering the highest number of females. Male candidates however dominated construction at 5,677.
Government has urged artisans and casual laborers to enroll for certification and the Directorate of Industrial Training.
