Start Hub Africa today held an exhibition of projects initiated by graduate entrepreneurs aimed at nurturing young entrepreneurs from being job seekers to job creators.
Start Hub Africa is an initiative that provides a platform for entrepreneurs to network.
Young entrepreneurs pitch an idea and are then given feedback from experienced entrepreneurs which eventually helps them to become better.
“The Start Hub Africa provides practical mentoring for business students to startup their own businesses to reduce on the number of unemployed youth in the country," said Matthias Mobius, the executive director of the organisation .
January and February are the graduation months across several universities in Uganda with 40,000 graduates reportedly released into the job market.
But the joy of completing school is usually short-lived, since our economy apparently only creates about 8,000 jobs a year.
As such, a big chunk of the 40,000 graduates who will graduate this year are set to join their colleagues on the streets.
Yet unemployment in the country cannot be ignored,.
According to recent findings by International Labor Organisation, Africa has the youngest population in the world with about 75% being unemployed youth.
In Uganda however, just a handful of young people below the age of 30 years are below the poverty line of not being able to spend UGX 3,600/- a day.
Nevertheless, to fight the rampant unemployment in Uganda today, one has to acquire skills, get knowledge of the venture and as well use his or her talents.
