The increasing backlog of cases has affected revenue mobilisation in the country as money is held up in unresolved commercial related cases, judicial officers have said.
Principal Judge Yorokamu Bamwine said this is caused by underfunding of the judicial administration and lack of the required number personnel to handle tax cases.
Much as the Uganda Revenue Authority keeps coming up with different revenue collection measures to ensure they hit the revenue collection target, a number of challenges continue to frustrate these efforts.
The backlog of cases in the judiciary was cited as one of the challenges at a judges' conference on tax administration in Kampala yesterday.
Doris Akol, the Commissioner General of URA said case backlog has a detrimental effect on revenue mobilisation.
Bamwine acknowledged this challenge but blamed it on underfunding of the judicial sector.
He said funding the judiciary and recruiting more personnel will go a long way in tackling this challenge, which in return will improve on revenue collection in the country.
