Vocational training institutions will be producing students based on international standard practices if the new international curriculum, supported by the World Bank is adopted.
Silver Mukwasiibwe, the Principal at Uganda Technical College Bushenyi said the new internationally adopted curriculum emphasises the need for high standards that are required when undertaking public infrastructure projects.
Vocational training institutions in Uganda have over time been faulted for paying less attention to standards when offering training to different student.
As a result, thousands have been denied employment, especially in key sectors like roads and construction where standards are a key requirement.
This is the narrative that the Word Bank intends to change by supporting an internationally adopted curriculum set to be implemented in the four colleges of Bukalasa Agricultural College, Uganda Technical College Lira, Uganda Technical College Elgon and Uganda Technical College Bushenyi.
The four-year project worth $100m aims are training students depending on demand.
The new curriculum if implemented, will see several sectors including those in manufacturing recruit competent and productive staff.
