HIV/AIDS patients are at risk more of exposure to Kaposi Sarcoma cancer that further complicates their plight.
Unfortunately the cancer policy doesn’t holistically cover HIV /AIDS patients with special treatment, according to the Ministry of Health.
It is yet another big blow for HIV /AIDS patients as experts spell doom in case of contraction of the HIV driven cancer kaposi sarcoma.
Speaking during the commemoration of the International cancer day at the KCCA grounds, Executive Director Uganda Cancer Institute Jackson Orem fears the cancer policy doesn’t have a policy for the type of cancer.
The side effects of the HIV / AIDS treatment narrow the chances of contracting the cancerous but with national cancer control plan Orem says the possibilities of survival are limited.
Dr Margret Akello, the board chair Uganda Cancer Society, says more needs to be done especially on some of the promises from government towards the cancer fight.
The revelations were made as Uganda joined the rest of the world to mark World Cancer Day.
Dr Orem has revealed before that, "According to Kampala Data Registry, the incidence of cancer for every 100,000 is 320 newly diagnosed cases. Our conservative estimate is that at any one time, we have an excess of 200,000 cases – both new and old and even those that have been treated and cured. For every 100 new cases diagnosed, 80 of them cases die. We have an 80% mortality rate and 20% survival rate."
