Tour operator arrested for conning tourist of $27,000

Uganda Tourism Board and Tourism Police have arrested a tour operator for allegedly conning a tourist of $27,000 (Shs 99 million).

The suspect Didan Atukunda from Mamba Gorilla Safaris was arrested for declining to pay back $27,000 which he received through an erroneous payment by a tourist from Netherlands.

The money for gorrilla tracking permits .

Atukunda who was arrested in Kabale last evening was brought to Jinja road police station awaiting hearing.

The tourist erroneously paid $30.000 instead of $3000 for a trip to trek Gorillas in Bwindi impenetrable National park.

On realizing the error, he requested for a refund which Atukunda declined.

The tourists then contacted the Uganda Tourism Board who acted promptly to have him arrested.

Before his arrest , UTB tried to have this matter settled out of court but Atukunda wasn’t cooperative.
