Bundibugyo: Trial begins for soldier who allegedly shot dead S4 student

Uganda people Defence Forces have intervened in the matter IN which one of their own officers corporal Sam Tumwebaze a 3rd battalion mountain brigade allegedly shot dead a one Bwambale Tibenda, a senior four student of Burambagira secondary school in Bundibugyo district.

The court martial that convened at Kirumya sub county headquarters heard that on the 31st October 2018 Tumwebaze escaped from his defence with a riffle to a disco dance in Kyapa trading centre.

While there he engaged into an argument with Tibenda and shot him.

Tibenda was left with one paper (Agriculture) to complete his UCE exams.

Tumwebaze first denied the charges saying the charge sheet read to him was full of lies.

This prompted court to re-read the charge sheet upon which he agreed to take plea.

Bbira Perusi, the mother of the deceased could not hold back her tears during the trial. She demanded justice from the court saying Tibenda was her only child and hope for a better future.

The first prosecution witness, Dr Mukombi Godfrey Mugisha a medical doctor at Bundibugyo General Hospital  confirmed that the deceased had been killed by a bullet basing on the nature of the wound.

Mugisha carried out the postmortem on Tibenda's body.

Hearing of the case continues today when further evidence pinning Tumwebaze is expected to be tabled.
