NBS Sport has officially been named the official media partner for the Olympic Day Tooke Run 2026, pledging comprehensive coverage of the event set for June 20, 2026, in Bushenyi District.

The partnership was formalised on Tuesday, June 2, following discussions at the NBS Breakfast Meeting where Rev. Florence Isabirye Muranga, Director General of the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID) and the Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre (BIRDC), and Don Rukare, President of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and Commonwealth Games Association Uganda (CGA Uganda), outlined the event’s significance for sport, nutrition, tourism, and community development.

Held under the theme “Move, Learn & Discover for Nutrition-Care,” the Olympic Day Tooke Run builds on the traditional Olympic Day Run by promoting matooke as a key nutritional resource while advancing Uganda’s banana value-addition agenda.

Dr. Rukare said Olympic Day remains a global celebration of sport, health, and unity.

“June 23 is a day set aside across the world to celebrate sport, healthy living, and the power of bringing people together through sport,” he said.

Rev. Muranga emphasised the role of nutrition in athletic performance, saying the partnership reinforces a critical link between food systems and sport.

“There is no sporting excellence without nutrition. Nutrition is the fuel that supports performance, and this partnership helps amplify that message,” she said.

Following the discussions, the organisations formalised the partnership agreement, with Rev Muranga representing PIBID/BIRDC, Rukare representing UOC and CGA Uganda, and Ben Mwine, Head of Partnerships and Corporate Affairs at Next Media, signing on behalf of the broadcaster.

Mwine said the initiative brings together sport, health, and community impact.

“We are excited to be part of this initiative and look forward to joining thousands of Ugandans in Bushenyi on June 20 as we celebrate healthy living and national progress,” he said.

NBS Sport Head of Broadcast Andrew Kabuura reaffirmed the broadcaster’s commitment to telling stories that highlight Ugandan excellence.

“Expect full coverage on NBS Sport. This is an opportunity to promote our local products while highlighting the connection between sport, nutrition, and national development. We are excited to tell that story,” he said.

The Olympic Day Tooke Run will feature 5km, 10km, and 21km race categories and is expected to attract athletes, schools, farmers, corporate teams, and communities from across the country.

As official media partner, NBS Sport will provide coverage across the build-up and race day, spotlighting the intersection of sport, nutrition, tourism, and Uganda’s banana value-addition industry.
