Joseph Lukyamuzi of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has been sworn in as the new Chairperson of Entebbe Municipal Council Division B, taking over from Richard Ssekyondo of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Lukyamuzi is expected to focus on key infrastructure projects, particularly road development and the planned tarmacking of Kigungu Road behind Entebbe International Airport, a long-standing priority for residents and businesses in the area.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, Lukyamuzi expressed gratitude to residents for entrusting him with leadership and pledged to deliver tangible results in service delivery.
“I am honoured by the trust the people of Division B have placed in me. My priority will be to deliver tangible results, especially on roads and infrastructure. The tarmacking of Kigungu Road is a high-demand project that will improve access and boost business around the airport area. We shall work closely with the central government and all stakeholders to make it a reality,” he said.
In a related development, Kenneth Mwebaze was also sworn in as Chairperson of Entebbe Division A, taking over from Scholastica Najjemba, who was also an NRM candidate.
Mwebaze pledged to strengthen the implementation of government programmes, with particular emphasis on youth and community empowerment initiatives such as Emyooga, aimed at improving livelihoods and supporting local entrepreneurship.
“I thank the people of Division A for giving me this opportunity to serve. We shall build on the foundation laid by my predecessor and focus on service delivery. I am committed to strengthening Emyooga and other government programmes so that our people can access soft loans, acquire skills, and improve their livelihoods. Together, we will transform Division A,” he said.
The two swearing-in ceremonies reflect the continued dominance of the NRM in Entebbe’s local leadership following the recent elections, with new leaders pledging to prioritise infrastructure development and improved service delivery in their respective divisions.
