Supreme Mufti Calls for Reflection, Charity and Health Vigilance Ahead of Eid al-Adhuha

The Supreme Mufti of Uganda, Shaban Muhammad Galabuzi, has called on Muslims across the country to embrace the spiritual significance of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah as Eid al-Adhuha approaches, urging believers to strengthen acts of worship, charity, sacrifice, and community responsibility.

In his Eid message delivered on Tuesday, Sheikh Galabuzi reminded Muslims that Dhul Hijjah is among the holiest months in Islam and encouraged the faithful to take advantage of its spiritual rewards.

He particularly highlighted the importance of fasting on the Day of Arafah, observed a day before Eid, noting that Islamic teachings promise forgiveness of sins for those who fast sincerely.

“These ten days carry immense rewards. We should increase acts of worship, seek Allah’s forgiveness for past and coming sins, and draw closer to Him through good deeds,” Sheikh Galabuzi said.

The Supreme Mufti urged Muslims to intensify acts of Sadaqah, or voluntary charity, and encouraged visits to the sick during the festive season, saying such gestures reflect the true spirit of Eid al-Adhuha.

He noted that the celebration commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to Allah, describing sacrifice, compassion, and generosity as central values of the occasion.

On the ritual sacrifice, Sheikh Galabuzi advised Muslims to ensure animals are slaughtered after Eid prayers on May 27, 2026, in accordance with Islamic teachings.

He also encouraged those able to share meat with neighbours, vulnerable families, and the less privileged in their communities.

Turning to national affairs, the Supreme Mufti called on newly elected Members of Parliament and other leaders to serve Ugandans with integrity, fairness, and dedication.

“Leadership is a trust. Those entrusted with authority must prioritize the welfare of the people and work toward the development of our country,” he said.

Sheikh Galabuzi also urged Ugandans to remain vigilant against Ebola and other infectious diseases by observing public health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.

He called on the public to maintain hygiene and avoid risky contact in order to protect communities during the festive period.

The Supreme Mufti concluded by praying for peace, unity, and prosperity for Uganda and wished Muslims a blessed and reflective Eid al-Adhuha.
