Youth cadres aligned to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) under the NRM Revolutionary Network have called for intensified and more comprehensive efforts in the fight against corruption, urging authorities to widen investigations beyond isolated cases to cover all government institutions.
Led by Ivan Mwijukye, the group made the appeal during a press briefing, where they expressed concern that focusing investigations solely on the former Speaker of Parliament over corruption allegations would not adequately address what they described as a deeply entrenched vice across multiple sectors.
The youth leaders argued that corruption is not confined to one office but is widespread in various ministries, departments, and agencies. They emphasized the need for a systematic and inclusive approach to investigations to ensure accountability and restore public trust in government systems.
Their remarks come against the backdrop of intensified investigations by police and other security agencies into corruption-related allegations involving the former Speaker of Parliament. The probe, which has gained national attention in recent days, follows growing public outcry over the misuse of public resources and demands for greater transparency.
The NRM youth group welcomed the ongoing investigations but stressed that they should mark the beginning of a broader crackdown. They urged authorities to carry out comprehensive audits and accountability checks across all government entities to ensure proper utilization of public funds.
“We cannot fight corruption selectively. If we are to win this battle, every institution must be subjected to scrutiny,” the group noted.
At the same briefing, the youth cadres commended General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for what they described as his commitment to combating corruption. However, they appealed to him to expand his efforts to cover all sectors of government in order to achieve meaningful reform.
The group further called on President Yoweri Museveni to consider appointing Gen. Muhoozi as Vice President, arguing that such a position would give him the authority and platform to directly coordinate and strengthen anti-corruption initiatives nationwide.
They maintained that decisive leadership and a unified national approach are essential in tackling corruption, which continues to undermine service delivery and economic development.
As investigations into the former Speaker continue, the youth leaders reiterated their demand for a transparent, inclusive, and sustained anti-corruption campaign that targets all individuals and institutions implicated in the misuse of public resources.
