Next Media Joins Childhood Cancer Colour Run to Champion Awareness and Support for Young Patients

Next Media has reaffirmed its commitment to social impact after NBS Television, AfroMobile, and Next Radio partnered with the 4th Edition of the Childhood Cancer Colour Run held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Uganda Cancer Institute in Kampala.

The annual run, organised by the Uganda Child Cancer Foundation (UCCF), was held under the theme, “Behind Every Step is a Child’s Story,” bringing together thousands of participants including corporate teams, families, survivors, and advocates in a collective effort to raise awareness about childhood cancer.

The initiative continues to highlight the realities faced by children battling cancer in Uganda, where many are diagnosed each year but struggle to complete treatment due to financial constraints, transport challenges, and limited support systems.

Through the partnership, Next Media amplified stories from the event across television, radio, and digital platforms, while also mobilising its staff, known as Transformers, to take part in the 5KM and 10KM runs in solidarity with affected children and families.

The group’s participation underscored its broader mission of using media as a tool for social transformation under its guiding philosophy, “Inform to Transform.”

Speaking after the run, UCCF Board Member Anne Juuko commended Next Media for its involvement and advocacy.

“Next Media lives by a powerful mission: Inform to Transform. This morning, you did exactly that. You informed Uganda that childhood cancer is real, that it is urgent, and that it demands a response, not with words, but with your feet, your energy, and your hearts,” she said.

She emphasised that media organisations play a critical role beyond reporting events, noting their power to shape public awareness and influence action.

“Media is not just about telling stories. It is about changing them. The story of childhood cancer in Uganda is one that needs to be told louder and more often, and Next Media has the reach, the talent, and the courage to tell it,” she added.

The Childhood Cancer Colour Run has grown into a national advocacy platform aimed at reducing treatment abandonment, strengthening psychosocial support for families, and raising funds to assist children undergoing treatment through transport, nutrition, and care support.

For Next Media, participation in such initiatives reflects a continued commitment to community impact and corporate social responsibility, extending its influence beyond broadcasting into tangible social engagement.

As thousands of participants moved through Kampala covered in colour, the event served as a reminder that every step taken represented a child’s journey toward hope, survival, and a better chance at life.
