The Bishop of the Diocese of East Ruwenzori, George K. Turyasingura, has called on parents to take a more active role in nurturing their children spiritually, emphasizing that the responsibility of teaching prayer and Christian values should not be left entirely to church leaders.
Bishop Turyasingura made the remarks on Sunday while presiding over a pastoral and confirmation service at St. Andrew’s Rwemirama Church of Uganda under Kyembogo Parish in Kitagwenda District, where 34 Christians were confirmed into the Anglican faith.
Addressing the congregation, the Bishop expressed concern that many parents have neglected their responsibility to guide children in matters of faith and church teachings.
“Parents must take responsibility for teaching their children how to pray and follow Christian values because spiritual guidance should not be left to church leaders alone,” Bishop Turyasingura said.
He emphasized that raising disciplined and God-fearing children requires close cooperation between parents and the church.
“We need parents to dedicate time to praying with their children, teaching them Christian principles, and encouraging them to participate actively in church activities,” he added.
During the same service, Bishop Turyasingura laid a foundation stone for the ongoing expansion and construction of Rwemirama Church. He commended Christians for supporting the development project and urged them to continue working together to ensure the successful completion of the church.
“I commend the Christians for their commitment and support towards the construction of the church. Unity and teamwork are important in achieving this vision,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the newly confirmed Christians pledged to put into practice the teachings they had received, continue growing spiritually, and promote Christian values within their communities.
The confirmation service attracted hundreds of Christians from different parts of Kyembogo Parish who gathered for worship and celebrations.
