Fact-Check: Viral 'Bagyendanwa Drum Disappearance' Letter Is Fake

By | May 17, 2026

A document circulating on social media claiming that President Yoweri Museveni ordered investigations into the alleged disappearance of the “Bagyendanwa” drum from State House Uganda is fake.

The letter alleges that the drum disappeared from State House, security systems failed on 31st December 2025, and investigations were ordered into possible involvement of individuals linked to Buganda or Ankole.

However, the DisMis Fake News desk found several inconsistencies in the document, including unusual formatting, questionable wording, and titles that do not match official UPDF or State House communication standards.

The letter also uses provocative ethnic references and sensational language uncommon in formal intelligence correspondence.

Additionally, there has been no official statement from State House, President Museveni, or any credible Ugandan media outlet confirming such an incident.

There is no credible evidence that the “Bagyendanwa” drum disappeared from State House or that the circulating letter is authentic. The document should therefore be treated as misinformation.
