Embrace Your New Leadership, Mufti Tells Obongi Muslims

The Mufti of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has called on Muslims in the newly established Muslim District to unite behind their new leadership and support the district’s Kadhi, Sheikh.

The remarks were delivered during a colourful swearing-in ceremony held at the Main Mosque in Obongi Town Council where Sheikh Juma Adam Sebbi Gimara officially took office as the first District Kadhi of Obongi Muslim District.

The Mufti’s message was delivered by Sheikh Imran Abdnoor Ssali, the Secretary for Religious Affairs at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, who emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among Muslims as the new district begins its administration.

“In the name of the Mufti, I am pleased to declare that the official commencement of the Obongi Muslim District administration, together with the introduction and swearing-in of the first District Kadhi, Sheikh Juma Adam Sebbi Gimara, has been a success,” Sheikh Ssali said amid chants of “Allahu Akbar” from the congregation.

In his speech, Sheikh Ssali outlined eight priority areas that the new leadership should focus on, including promoting unity, ensuring justice and transparency, investing in education, fostering economic empowerment, strengthening interfaith relations, maintaining good ties with government, embracing technology, and leading by example.

Sheikh Mahdie Mahmood Raihan, the Regional Assistant to the Mufti, urged Muslims in Obongi to respect and cooperate with their new leader.

He also advised the newly sworn-in Kadhi to remain attentive to the concerns and views of the Muslim faithful.

Speaking shortly after taking the oath of office, Sheikh Juma Adam Sebbi Gimara pledged to serve the Muslim community with commitment and integrity.

The oaths were administered by the UMSC Electoral Commission team led by Abubakar Were Wandaghor alongside the West Nile Regional Commissioner,Hadad Salim.

Sheikh Gimara expressed gratitude to the Mufti and the Muslim community in Obongi for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the district.

“We beseech Almighty Allah to bless us as we commence the realization of our long-time dream of having our own district,” Sheikh Gimara said after receiving the instruments of authority and the official green attire of office from Sheikh Ssali.

The ceremony attracted Muslim leaders, local officials, and faithful from different parts of the region, marking a significant milestone in the growth of Islamic administration in Obongi District.

Later in the afternoon, Sheikh Ssali and his delegation proceeded to Bidi Bidi for another official engagement.
