The minister of state for Lands, Persis Namuganza, has cancelled land tittles on several plots of land in Jinja town.

In the recent past, Jinja has been in the spotlight over poor land management system,coupled with rampant grabbing of government land.

A case in point is the land belonging to Spire road Primary school which was allegedly grabbed an investor.

In November last year there was a stand off at the disputed land when parents found the alleged investor fencing off the school land.

It is this and other cases that prompted Namuganza to pitch camp in Jinja to study the situation.

She ordered the cancellation of all the land tittles fraudulently acquired in government land and wetlands.

Without mincing her words Namuganza castigated the Jinja local leadership for championing the land grabbing bonanza in the area.

In a stakeholders meeting at Jinja district Council Hall the Resident District Commissioner Jinja Eric Sakwa reported to the minister how he has received threats from notorious land grabbers over his campaign to fight land grabbing.

Many people accused the ministry of Lands officials who at the zonal office in Jinja of being at the forefront of the land mess.
