Mufti Mubaje Urges Muslims to Embrace Zakat, Commends Sponsorship of Hajj Pilgrims

The Mufti of Uganda, Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has urged Muslims to embrace the giving of Zakat, describing it as one of the key ways of preserving wealth through the blessings and protection of Allah.

Speaking during a thanksgiving and farewell function held at the Tororo Muslim District Headquarters, Mufti Mubaje emphasized that supporting the needy through Zakat attracts divine blessings and safeguards wealth from loss and destruction.

“When Muslims give to and support those in need, Allah protects their wealth and prevents it from diminishing,” Mufti Mubaje said. “It is very important for believers to give back to Allah from the blessings and wealth He has granted them.”

The Mufti quoted several verses from the Holy Qur’an and sayings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), stressing that Almighty Allah showers blessings upon those who use their wealth responsibly by supporting less privileged members of society.

“Many people have lost wealth due to various natural calamities, while others are witnessing the collapse of their businesses because of greed that hardens the heart and leads one to neglect the obligation of Zakah,” he preached. “Wealth that is devoid of divine blessings cannot prosper.”

During the same function, Mufti Mubaje commended Brother Abdullahi Hussein Shire, Executive Director of Gateway Bus Company, for sponsoring eight Muslims to perform Hajj in the Holy City of Makkah in 2026.

The beneficiaries, comprising six men and two women, are expected to join millions of Muslims from across the world during the annual pilgrimage in Makkah.

The Mufti encouraged other Muslims to emulate such acts of charity and community support.

“Those who desire prosperity should emulate individuals like Brother Abdullahi Hussein Shire by consistently giving alms and engaging in virtuous acts that express gratitude to Allah and promote community welfare,” he said.

Mufti Mubaje also urged Muslim parents to prioritize educating their children in both secular and Islamic religious studies, noting that balanced education is essential in preparing responsible future citizens.

The host Kadhi of Tororo, Abdnoor Abdu-Malik Koire, welcomed the guests and thanked the Mufti for honoring the invitation.
