The by-election for the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament seat will be held on June 24, 2026, the Electoral Commission has announced.
The by-election follows the death of former Kalangala District Woman MP Helen Nakimuli, who died on April 19, 2026, at Alexandra Medical Centre in Kitante, Kampala.
Nakimuli passed away at the age of 40 shortly after undergoing surgery to treat uterine fibroids, only months after being elected for a second term in office.
In a statement dated May 6, 2026, Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama outlined the official roadmap that will guide the by-election process.
According to the programme, the exercise began with a stakeholders’ meeting and press briefing scheduled for May 8, 2026.
The update of the National Voters’ Register at parish level will take place from May 11 to May 13, 2026, which will also serve as the deadline for voter registration and transfer of voting locations within Kalangala District.

The voters’ register will be displayed at polling stations across the district from May 20 to May 29, 2026.
Parish tribunal recommendations for inclusion or deletion of names from the register will then be displayed at parish headquarters between May 29 and June 4, 2026.

Inspection of nomination papers and lodging of complaints will run from June 10 to June 15, 2026.
A harmonisation meeting between the Returning Officer and candidates to coordinate campaign programmes and establish liaison committees is scheduled for June 12, 2026.
Campaign activities will officially run from June 12 to June 22, 2026.
The recruitment of polling day officials, including written interviews, will be conducted between June 13 and June 15, 2026.
Processing, production and issuance of accreditation tags to political parties, organisations and accredited observers will also take place during the same period.
