The embattled residents of Lusanja have started constructing houses after court pronounced its self in their favour. The residents say they are tired of sleeping in tents, which they are not used to.
Some of the residents have reportedly used their land agreements as collateral with banks to secure loans to start reconstruction of their homes.
Since October 2018, the Lusanja residents have been living in tents provided by government following the destruction of their homes by Medard Kiconco, who claims to be the rightful owner of the land.
The residents explained their decision to rebuild because they are tired of exposing their families to rain and other adverse weather conditions. They say some of their families have suffered infections because of the exposure.
The Lusanja residents chairman Fred Kanyike explains that many of them have taken loans from banks and microfinances to get over the construction quickly.
He says many of the residents are eager to have structures to protect their lives and property. He says many residents have suffered attacks from thugs and some women and girls raped.
Parents are now worried how they will be able to send their children back to school as their businesses were destroyed during the eviction process.
The residents still hope that President Yoweri Museveni will fulfill his promise that government will reconstruct what was destroyed if court proved they were illegally evicted.
