The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Aisha Batala Naluzze, has underscored the importance of integrity, accountability, and transparency as critical pillars in the fight against poverty and the pursuit of sustainable national development.
Naluzze’s message was delivered by the IGG Director of Ombudsman Affairs, Savio Kakooza Ntesimbe, at a Poverty Eradication and Mobilisation Function held at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) on Wednesday.
The event was organised by Team Thorough - YKM Kira House under the Office of the Senior Presidential Mobiliser on Poverty Eradication and Development, Pastor Robert Mbabazi.
Addressing participants on behalf of the IGG, Ntesimbe highlighted that while government strategies on wealth creation—anchored on sectors such as agriculture, industry, services, and ICT—offer a clear pathway for economic transformation, their success is dependent on adherence to values and a firm stance against corruption.
Ntesimbe noted that corruption continues to pose a significant barrier to development by diverting resources intended for communities, weakening public trust, and undermining the effectiveness of government programmes.
He urged both leaders and citizens to embrace responsible wealth creation rooted in discipline, hard work, and integrity.
“Corruption remains a major obstacle to development, as it diverts resources meant for communities, weakens public trust and undermines the effectiveness of government programmes,” Ntesimbe said in the speech delivered on behalf of the IGG.
Framing the fight against corruption as a shared responsibility, Ntesimbe emphasized the constitutional duty of all citizens to promote good governance and uphold the rule of law, noting that meaningful development can only thrive in an environment where integrity prevails.
Ntesimbe further called on leaders and community mobilisers to ensure that government programmes reach their intended beneficiaries, while also raising awareness about available opportunities such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), which is aimed at improving livelihoods.
The event was graced by the Minister for Public Service, Muruli Mukasa, who represented President Museveni.
