Kamwenge District Council has approved a Shs42.4 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, aimed at strengthening service delivery and accelerating socio-economic transformation.
The budget was presented during a council sitting in Kamwenge by Vice Chairperson and Secretary for Finance, Turinawe Agnes Mugisha, who outlined the district’s projected revenue sources and expenditure priorities.
According to the budget framework, the district expects to receive Shs40.5 billion from central government transfers, Shs1.5 billion from locally generated revenue, and Shs423 million from donors and development partners.
Speaking during the session on Wednesday, District Speaker Gerald Twebaze commended councillors for their unity and commitment in passing the budget.
“I want to thank all honourable councillors for their cooperation and dedication in approving this budget. It will serve as a critical policy tool to guide effective service delivery and the implementation of development programmes across Kamwenge District,” Twebaze said.
LCV Chairperson Joseph Karungi said the approved budget prioritises key sectors essential for improving livelihoods.
“This budget prioritises essential sectors such as education, health, water, roads, agriculture, industrialisation, and environmental protection. These are fundamental in achieving socio-economic transformation for our people,” Karungi noted.
He expressed optimism that effective implementation and accountability would lead to improved service delivery and better living standards for residents.
The approval marks a key milestone in the district’s planning process, with leaders now shifting focus to implementation to ensure tangible results for the community.
