People Power activist remanded to Luzira

“People Power” affiliated activist Moses Bigirwa has been remanded to Luzira until the next week after he was charged with spreading false news when he went on radio and said the NRM government had planned to kill Bobi Wine during the fracas that ensued during the Arua by-elections.

He will be returning for court to rule on his bail application.

Bigirwa is alleged to have misinformed the public hence causing unnecessary fear when he said the NRM government had planned to kill Bobi Wine the leader of the People Power pressure group.

Controversially however, a Supreme Court ruling annulled the criminalisation of fake news as protection of the constitutional right and freedom of expression and particularly freedoms of the press.

Bigirwa’s lawyer Samuel Muyizzi also applied for bail as one of his client’s constitutional rights on which court was unable to rule even though state’s Roselyn Kipola didn’t object.

There was brief tightening of security at the LDC Court premises as the case went on.
