Leaders in Buganda have renewed calls for improved standards, discipline and hard work as they continue mobilising subjects under the “Musitule Omutindo” development initiative.
The appeal was made during a mobilisation event where subjects from Buddu and Bugerere counties contributed Shs8.14 million to support Kingdom programmes through the ongoing Luwalo Lwaffe initiative fundraising campaign.
Speaking on behalf of the Katikkiro, Deputy Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko Ahmed Lwasa thanked participants for their contribution and urged a shift in mindset toward productivity and self-reliance.
“Improving standards requires commitment and discipline in our daily work. We must stop making excuses and focus on improving our livelihoods,” Lwasa said.
The campaign is part of the broader “Musitule Omutindo” initiative aimed at improving livelihoods through better performance in key sectors including agriculture, education, trade and household income generation.
Buganda Kingdom Minister Joseph Kawuki also addressed the gathering, urging subjects to protect Kingdom property and heritage sites from encroachers and land grabbers, warning that such threats undermine development efforts.
He called for stronger community vigilance to safeguard key assets including county headquarters and cultural sites.
At the same event, Bugerere County Chief Samuel Ssemugooma raised concern over what he described as growing external influence encouraging farmers to abandon coffee growing in favour of sugarcane.
He warned that the shift is contributing to reduced household incomes and weakening agricultural productivity in the region.
The leaders collectively emphasised that sustainable development in Buganda depends on discipline, protection of assets and commitment to productive economic activities, particularly in agriculture.
