Thousands of residents in Kyankwanzi joined a charity run marking General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 52nd birthday, with organisers framing the event as a blend of community service, patriotism, and support for vulnerable groups.

The National Leadership Institute (NALI) National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi, together with residents of Kyankwanzi District, participated in a charity run held to mark the 52nd birthday of Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The event, held under the theme “Running for Charity and Purpose,” began at the institute grounds and stretched to Lusozi town, drawing participation from local leaders, youth groups, and community members.

He said the turnout demonstrated public appreciation for leadership initiatives aimed at improving community welfare.

“Gen. Muhoozi has consistently shown commitment to uplifting communities, and today’s turnout is a clear sign that people appreciate his efforts,” he added.

Kyankwanzi District PLU coordinator Mwebesa Frank described the run as a symbol of unity, saying it brought residents together around shared social and health-focused goals.

“This run brings our people together for a common cause. It shows the spirit of togetherness and our collective commitment to supporting initiatives that improve lives,” he said.

He also highlighted previous outreach efforts, including a medical health camp conducted in the district, which he said benefited many residents through free diagnosis and treatment services.

Residents who took part in the run said the initiative combined celebration with meaningful social impact.

Sarah Nakato, a resident of Lusozi, said she joined because the event was about helping vulnerable groups rather than only marking a birthday.

“It feels good to be part of something meaningful,” she said.

John Ssempijja, a youth participant, said the event encouraged both fitness and social responsibility.

“This kind of activity encourages us to stay healthy while also thinking about others,” he said.

Harriet Namusoke, a local trader, said the large turnout reflected strong community unity.

“We need more events like this that bring people together for a good cause,” she said.

Moses Kato added that past interventions, including health outreach programmes, had left a lasting impact on residents.

The charity run is part of a wider series of nationwide events organised to mark Gen Muhoozi’s birthday, blending public mobilisation with charitable causes aimed at supporting orphans and vulnerable communities.

Organisers said the initiative reflects a growing emphasis on linking public celebrations with community service and social welfare activities.
