The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) and Senior Presidential Adviser, Hadijah Namyalo, has backed the upcoming birthday charity run in honour of Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba with a cash contribution of Shs10 million.
The decision is widely seen as reinforcing unity between the ONC and the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
Namyalo made the contribution on the spot as she received official run kits on behalf of the ONC during a meeting with a PLU delegation led by Secretary General David Kabanda.
The event doubled as a public reaffirmation of cooperation between the two structures amid occasional speculation about rivalry.
Speaking to the press, Kabanda said the run, themed “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” is aimed at supporting vulnerable children living in ghettos and those under the care of non-governmental organisations across the country.
“This run is for a cause,” Kabanda said, emphasizing that the initiative goes beyond birthday celebrations and reflects a broader commitment to improving the welfare of marginalized children.
He welcomed Namyalo’s support, noting that both the ONC and PLU share a common objective of mobilising citizens in line with the vision of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Kabanda also dismissed claims of friction between the two offices. “There are no wrangles or conflicts between the ONC and PLU,” he said. “We work together and we shall continue to do so.”
Namyalo described her involvement as rooted in a long-standing personal commitment to charitable causes rather than political calculation. She framed her participation as a continuation of her community-focused work.
On celebrating Gen. Muhoozi, she was unequivocal. “Gen. Muhoozi is here to defend this country,” she said, adding that recognising his birthday through a charitable cause was appropriate.
She also highlighted her personal relationship with Kabanda, describing a friendship dating back to childhood, which she said strengthens collaboration between their respective offices.
Namyalo further pointed to their shared political journey, noting that both she and Kabanda worked to support President Museveni’s electoral victory in 2026, a common goal that continues to shape their engagement.
Her Shs10 million contribution and participation were interpreted by attendees as more than symbolic, signalling institutional backing from one of the ruling party’s most visible mobilisation arms and boosting momentum for the charity run.
The event is expected to draw participation from across government, civil society, and the private sector, rallying support for vulnerable children under a shared banner of hope.
