The Minister of Works and Transport, General Edward Katumba Wamala, has emphasized the critical role played by the Engineers Registration Board in safeguarding the quality of national infrastructure.

He noted that the standards upheld by engineers directly influence the durability and safety of roads, buildings, and public utilities across the country.

General Katumba made the remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of Colonel Engineer Robert Namudongo as a new member of the Engineers Registration Board. The ceremony was officiated by the Registrar Special Duties, Harriet Ssali, and presided over by General Katumba.

The event was attended by the Under Secretary at the Ministry of Works and Transport, alongside other members of the Engineers Registration Board.

General Katumba observed that the appointment of Col. Namudongo strengthens the Board, citing the value of his experience from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). He also highlighted the contribution of the UPDF Engineering Brigade to national development, particularly in executing infrastructure projects in challenging environments.

General Katumba called on the newly sworn-in member to execute his duties with integrity, transparency, and professionalism.

“The quality of roads, buildings, and public utilities depends heavily on adherence to professional standards,” he said.

General Katumba also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the Engineers Registration Board to ensure that infrastructure delivered across the country meets the highest standards of safety, quality, and value for money.
