Boda Boda riders together with traders in Kibaati Cell, Mubende Municipality, were today left in shock after a swarm of bees camped on a motorcycle.
The motorcycle registration number UMA 230GB (Bajaj Boxer), belongs to William Tushabe, a renowned bodaboda rider at the Mubende Regional Referral Hospital stage.
Eyewitnesses say that the rider had stopped to buy something from a nearby shop when he noticed bees surrounding his motorcycle.
"The bees first surrounded one motorcycle and later fully swarmed it," said one eyewitness.
Locals raised different opinions about the incident, with some suggesting it could be cultural, while others speculated that the owner might have carried something unusual.
"It is very rare to see such an incident, and here in town we do not have beehives, so where did the bees come from?" locals wondered.
After some time, a group of Born Again fellowship members arrived and prayed for the swarm to leave the motorcycle.
"In the name of the Almighty, I command these bees to leave this motorcycle," prayed one of the members.
Tushabe later set off from the scene as people watched and chanted while the bees followed him.
He eventually took the motorcycle to Mubende Central Police Station for safety.
Lawrence Akansimira, the Chairperson of Kaweeri Bodaboda Stage, told Nile Post that they were equally surprised by the incident.
"He is a Born Again Christian, and we are all shocked to see bees on his motorcycle. Maybe he annoyed someone or transported something unusual, but to the best of my knowledge, he is a holy man," said Akansimira.
Akansimira also dismissed allegations from some locals who suspected the motorcycle might have been stolen.
"What I can confirm is that he has had this motorcycle for a long time. He previously rode an older one, sold it, and bought this new one," he added.
He further explained why the motorcycle was taken to the police station, noting that some residents had developed negative suspicions.
"In such situations, people may think he is a thief and even burn the motorcycle, so he is currently at the station recording a statement," said Akansimira.
By the time of publication, Tushabe was still at the police station and was unable to comment.
