NRM Women Leaders in Buganda Endorse Jumah Witonze Kisekka for EALA

Women leaders from the Buganda region under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) have formally endorsed Jumah Witonze Kisekka for election to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

The endorsement was made at the NRM Secretariat in Kyandondo, where party officials and women leaders gathered to show support for Kisekka’s bid for the Arusha-based regional parliament.

Among those present were NRM Deputy Secretary General Rosemary Namayanja and the Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League Adrine Kobusigye, who both commended his decision to contest and wished him success.

The Buganda women leaders pledged to mobilize support among Members of Parliament, the electoral college for EALA representatives, noting that Kisekka’s candidature offers an opportunity to strengthen Uganda’s representation in the regional assembly.

In response, Kisekka welcomed the endorsement, describing it as a vote of confidence from a key party constituency.

“I am deeply honored by the trust and support from the women leaders of our party. This endorsement strengthens my resolve to serve and represent Uganda effectively at the East African Legislative Assembly,” he said.

Kisekka also acknowledged women’s contributions to leadership, citing national figures such as Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Speaker of Parliament Anita Among as examples of impactful leadership.

“Women in leadership have played a transformative role in shaping our country. Their support is not only encouraging but also a sign that we are moving in the right direction as a nation,” he added.

Kisekka pledged to advocate for women’s issues and promote deeper regional integration within the East African Community, including the long-envisioned political federation.

“I am committed to championing policies that uplift women and ensure their voices are heard at the regional level. At the same time, I will actively push for the East African Federation, which is achievable with focused and intentional leadership,” he said.

He further highlighted his campaign preparations, noting that he has already consulted widely with MPs across the country.

“I have traversed about 70 percent of the country engaging Members of Parliament and sharing my vision. I am confident that this groundwork will translate into support when the elections are held,” Kisekka noted.

Uganda’s EALA elections are set to begin on April 15, 2026, including a by-election to fill two vacant seats previously held by James Kakooza and Denis Namara in the 12th Parliament.

The endorsement from Buganda’s NRM women leaders is expected to boost Kisekka’s campaign as he seeks to secure a seat in the regional assembly.
