Use Library to Improve Academic Performance, Air Force Tells Entebbe Students

The Deputy Commander Air Force, Major General David Isimbwa, representing the Commander Air Force, Lieutenant General Charles Okidi, has urged students of Entebbe Air Force Secondary School to responsibly utilise the newly commissioned multi-million library to enhance their academic performance.

He made the remarks during the commissioning ceremony of the library by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), an initiative aimed at strengthening the school’s academic environment and improving learning outcomes for students.

“This library should be used to improve learning and academic performance. It must be protected and properly utilised,” he said, adding that he appreciates the contribution of partners who supported the school with computers and other learning resources, noting that such partnerships are vital in improving the quality of education.

The Joint Staff for Formal Education, Sports and Culture, Brigadier General Richard Karemire, commended the school for its strong performance and growing reputation, describing it as one of the best-performing institutions among army schools.

Brig Gen Karemire highlighted the critical role of military schools in fostering patriotism while delivering quality education to the children of service members.

“Our schools must be factories of patriotism and also provide good education to the children of soldiers so that airmen can concentrate on duty without worrying about their children’s education,” he said.

In a significant development, Brig Gen Karemire announced a commitment of Shs100 million towards the construction of a two-classroom block in the next financial year. The project is expected to help reduce congestion and phase out temporary learning spaces.

In his remarks, the Headteacher, Major Nathan Ampaire, said that the school, currently with a population of 2,895 students, is now focused on expanding its infrastructure and learning facilities to meet its growing demands.

According to him, planned developments include additional classrooms, more textbooks and computers, expanded dormitory space, a proper playground, and the construction of a main hall to support assemblies and student activities, particularly during adverse weather conditions.

During the event, Menzi Aviation donated 16 standalone computers to support digital learning at the school, while the Rotary Club of Entebbe continues to play a key role in mentoring students and supporting environmental initiatives such as tree planting.

Also in attendance were the Mayor of Entebbe Municipality, Fabrice Rulinda; Joyce Nalubega from Entebbe Municipal Council; Rev. Eva Byabashaija of St Mark Namatte; representatives from the United Nations Regional Service Centre Entebbe, Menzi Aviation Entebbe, and Rotary Club of Entebbe; as well as senior and junior officers, among other invited guests.
