FACT-CHECK: Viral “Ministry of Education Scholarships” Notice is Misleading

By | March 23, 2026

A document circulating on social media claims that Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports is offering multiple international scholarships across countries including the United Kingdom, China, India, Hungary, and others, complete with timelines, quotas, and funding categories.

However, the DisMis Fake News Desk confirms that the document is fake.

The notice attributed to the Department of Admissions, Scholarships and Student Affairs (ASSA) details purported scholarship slots by country, including programmes such as UK Commonwealth scholarships, as well as opportunities in China and India.

Dr Denis K. Mugimba, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education and Sports Uganda told NBS TV that the document is not authentic and urged the public to disregard it.

A review of the ministry’s verified communication channels including its official website and social media platforms shows no record of such an announcement. Legitimate government scholarship opportunities are consistently published through official, verifiable platforms.

The circulating “scholarship opportunities” notice attributed to Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports is not genuine. It contains inconsistencies and lacks official verification. The public is advised to treat it as misinformation and rely only on credible, official sources when seeking scholarship opportunities.

Verdict: FAKE
