Hundreds of Muslims from across Mityana Town gathered early at the main mosque, Masjid Jamia Mityana, to perform Eid prayers in a ceremony that brought together believers and leaders from various institutions.
The prayers were attended by leaders from both the central government and the Buganda Kingdom administration.
During his Eid message, the District Kadhi of Mityana District, Sheikh Luwenda Bashir Muhammad, called on political leaders to collaborate with those who will be elected for the benefit of their communities.
He emphasized that leadership should prioritize service over political division.
“We encourage those who may not win to cooperate with those elected so that they can continue serving the people who entrusted them with leadership,” Sheikh Luwenda said.
The District Khadi also revealed plans to launch a dialogue initiative that will bring together both elected leaders and those who do not succeed, aiming to combine development ideas from different political manifestos for the benefit of communities across Uganda.
“As religious leaders, we plan to meet political leaders whether they win or lose the elections and discuss how their ideas can still contribute to the development of the country,” he explained.
“What matters most is ensuring that Ugandans benefit from good leadership.”
Among the leaders present was Deo Kagimu Mukwenda. Speaking after the prayers, he urged Muslims to continue observing the discipline, generosity, and kindness cultivated during Ramadan.
“We encourage our Muslim brothers and sisters to continue practicing the values they observed during this holy period,” Kagimu said. “Let us continue showing kindness, unity, and respect for one another even after the celebrations.”
The Eid prayers concluded with messages of peace, unity, and cooperation, with religious leaders calling on both citizens and political figures to work together to promote harmony and development within their communities.
