Hundreds of Mulim students in Busedde Sub-county, Jinja District, are set to celebrate a more joyful Eid al-Fitr after receiving food donations from the Anadolu Foundation aimed at ensuring they do not miss out on the festivities while at school.
The foundation distributed assorted food items, including rice, cooking oil, sugar, and fruits, to several Muslim-founded schools in the area.
Beneficiary institutions included Wantunda Islamic Primary School, Iman Secondary School, Busedde College Bugaya, and Busedde Seed Secondary School.
Eid al-Fitr, one of the most significant holidays in Islam marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, will be observed on Friday, March 20.
Speaking during the distribution, Anadolu Foundation Director Idi Menya said the initiative was intended to enable students—especially those unable to travel home—to celebrate the occasion with dignity and joy.
“Many students may not be able to return home to celebrate Eid with their families, and they often miss the special meals prepared on that day,” Menya said.
“We stepped in to provide food items because some schools may not have the capacity to fully meet the students’ expectations during Eid.”
He added that the foundation is committed to supporting vulnerable communities and ensuring that important religious celebrations are observed meaningfully, regardless of a learner’s circumstances.
School administrators and students welcomed the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.
Sharif Waigangala, a teacher at Iman Secondary School, expressed gratitude on behalf of the students, noting that the donation would greatly enhance their Eid experience.
Similarly, Kitimbo Alisati Kirunda, patron of Muslim students at Busedde Seed Secondary School, praised the foundation and offered prayers for its continued generosity.
“We pray that Almighty Allah blesses you abundantly and reward you for this kindness,” she said. “We hope that even during Eid al-Adha, such support can be extended to the students.”
At Wantunda Islamic Primary School, Director Sheikh Yahaya Tenywa commended the foundation for upholding Islamic values of charity and compassion.
“He has fulfilled the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who urged those who are privileged to support the less fortunate,” Sheikh Tenywa said.
The donation is expected to ease the burden on school administrations while ensuring that students enjoy proper meals and a sense of celebration during Eid.
Through such initiatives, the Anadolu Foundation continues to play a key role in promoting community welfare and supporting education institutions, particularly during important religious occasions.
