Preparations for Kabaka’s 71st Birthday Celebrations Gain Momentum
Organisers from the Buganda Kingdom and the Orthodox Church have finalized coordination plans for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 71st birthday, set for April 13, 2026, in Namungoona, promising dignified and widely attended celebrations.

Preparations for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 71st birthday celebrations are progressing steadily following a coordination meeting between committees from the Buganda Kingdom and the Orthodox Church at Bulange, Mengo.

The meeting focused on refining and harmonizing arrangements for the celebrations, which will take place in Namungoona.

Minister Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko, Chairperson of the Buganda Kingdom organizing committee, noted that coordination has been smooth and that preparations at Namungoona indicate a well-organized and dignified event in honor of His Majesty.

She called upon the public to participate in all scheduled activities, which include a Youth Campfire event on April 11, 2026, the Kabaka’s Birthday Run on April 12, 2026, and the main birthday celebrations at the Orthodox Church Cathedral in Namungoona on April 13, 2026.

Fr. John Kibuuka Bbosa, Chairperson of the Church committee, expressed joy at hosting the celebrations this year.

“We are very happy to have been given the opportunity this year to host the Kabaka’s Birthday celebrations. This is a great honor for us,” he said.

He added that the timing is significant, with Easter Sunday falling on April 12, 2026, followed by the main birthday event on April 13.

Theodore Ssekikubo, deputy to Fr. Bbosa on the Church committee, also urged the public to turn out in large numbers.

“This is an event for Buganda, for Uganda, and for the whole world. We are putting everything in place to ensure the celebrations run smoothly and successfully,” Ssekikubo said.
