The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) of the National Resistance Movement has delivered Ramadan relief packages to fasting Muslim inmates at Luzira Maximum Security Prison as part of a nationwide outreach programme.
The ONC Manager, Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, personally handed over the items on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in a gesture aimed at supporting Muslim faithful observing Ramadan, including those in correctional facilities.
During the visit, Namyalo emphasised compassion, unity, and inclusion, noting that all members of society deserve care regardless of their circumstances.
“All members of society deserve care and support regardless of their circumstances,” she said, while urging adherence to the core values of Ramadan, including discipline, patience, and generosity.
The prison’s Rehabilitation Officer, Nuru Kateregga, highlighted the importance of the facility’s bakery section in equipping inmates with vocational skills to support their reintegration into society.
In response, Namyalo donated three bakery mixers to strengthen training capacity and improve productivity within the institution.
The equipment was received by Jackson Kwehangana, the Officer in Charge of Security and Safety, who welcomed the support and said it would boost the welfare and morale of inmates and staff during the fasting period.
In a similar initiative earlier in the month, Namyalo extended Ramadan relief to Muslim inmates at Kitalya Mini Max Prison.
The outreach forms part of ONC’s broader Ramadan campaign targeting vulnerable Muslim communities across Uganda ahead of Eid al-Fitr celebrations expected on Friday.
